Our Aims

To foster and develop the practice and spirit of Judo within the framework and constitution of the British Judo Association (BJA) to the highest possible standards.

To promote the teaching of Judo in clubs, schools and elsewhere throughout Jersey

To organize suitable training courses for players and officials throughout Jersey

Our Coaches and Officials

Bill Baker (Chair)

UKCC Level 2 Coach, Club Referee, First Aid, DBS checked, Safeguarding and Protecting Children. BJA Southern Area Committee Member.

2nd Dan black belt. Started judo in 1982, Island Games Champion 1995, black belt awarded in 1996, first qualified as a coach in 1997. British Masters Champion 2018 and 2023. Commonwealth Masters Gold and Silver medals 2024. Club referee and Matside coach.

Tony Palmer (Treasurer)

UKCC Level 2 Coach, Area Referee, First Aid, DBS checked, Safeguarding and Protecting Children

3rd Dan black belt. Started judo in 1987, Black belt awarded in 1995, first qualified as a coach in 1998. Area Referee and Matside coach

Joanne Reid (Club Welfare)

It is the whole association’s responsibility to ensure children’s welfare and everyone has a role to play. The Club Welfare Officer is an independent member of our committee and ensures that children’s welfare is prioritised. In line with best practice, the role is registered with British Judo Association and is the first point of contact for any queries or concerns (07797 834272)

Nigel Ottley

UKCC Level 1 Coach, First Aid, DBS checked, Safeguarding and Protecting Children.

2nd Dan black belt. Started judo in 1985. Cross trains in a range of martial arts including Muay Thai, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Tai Chi. Certified Boxing Instructor. Qualified swimming teacher and keen swimmer.

Kieron Lambert

UKCC Level 2 Coach, First Aid, DBS checked, Safeguarding and Protecting Children

1st Dan black belt. Started judo in 1988, Island games medallist 1991, multi time island champion and represented Jersey at county and area level. Level 1 coach since 2018. Club Referee and Matside Coach

Mike Bisson

UKCC Level 2 Coach, Area Referee, First Aid, DBS checked, Safeguarding and Protecting Children

3rd Dan black belt. Started judo in 1985, black belt awarded 2013, first qualified as coach in 2016. British Masters Champion 2023. Area referee and Matside Coach

Barrie Dorrington

UKCC Level 1 coach, First Aid, DBS checked, Safeguarding and Protecting Children.

3rd Dan Black belt. Started judo in 1984, black belt awarded in 1992, first qualified as a coach in 1996 . National C Referee. As our most experienced referee, Barrie leads referee development for Jersey Judo

Marie Thaureux

UKCC Level 1 Coach, First Aid, DBS checked, Safeguarding and Protecting Children.

1st Kyu Brown Belt awarded in 2022. Club Referee and Matside Coach.
